The sound installation “waterproof” was an installation in public space at Lendhafen in Klagenfurt, Austria from august until september 2014.
Lendhafen is the mouth of a man-made channel, built and used in the past for transporting goods.
The sound installation “waterproof” use the water as a transport medium for the sound of our familiar environment, similar to the historical origin of Lendhafen.
A microphone picks up the environment in the public domain. The sound is transported by underwater speakers through the water, mixes with the sonic of underwater world and per the aid of hydrophone the sound reaches back to the Lendhafen surrounding. Field sounds may be alienated by the hydraulic filter and can be overheard on the opposite bank of the canal.
A indoor version is being considered.
